Trustees Week 2021 - Sabbir Karim
This week, as part of Trustees Week, we are highlighting the great work of all our trustees and today we would like to share with you the amazing work of one of our Trustees, Sabbir Karim.
As a BA Cabin Crew since 1996, Sabbir has visited the Sreepur Village many times and has maintained a deep connection with them for over 25 years.
During many of BA's stopovers to Dhaka Sabbir, along with other crew members, would volunteer so that he could visit the project and spend time with the children, taking with them boxes of toys, medicines, computers and books for all the vulnerable children and their destitute mothers.
An award winning chef Sabbir was voted best Oriental and Asian Chef in 2012 and 2013 and furthermore he is also the proud owner of three restaurants in London: Namaaste Kitchen in Camden Town, Salaam Namaste in Bloomsbury and most recently he opened a new restaurant in Highgate called Namaaste Highgate.
Over the years, Sabbir has hosted numerous events where he has raised a most generous amount for hundreds and hundreds of mothers and their children enabling them to live a life of positivity and not in fear or poverty. Sabbir hosted both Sreepur's 25th and most recent 30th anniversary in his London restaurants, the latter was attended by Sir Keir Starmer.
Sabbir not only combines his job of flying all over the world as a British Airways purser with a love of Indian cuisine, he also dedicates his time to helping to empower our single mothers and their children with life-long opportunities and in doing so brings hope to more impoverished families living in Bangladesh.
We asked Sabbir if he could summarise The Sreepur Village in three words what would he say, Sabbir told us, "Hope, Education and Equality".
