Saving Lives at Sreepur
As the death toll from floods increases across South Asia (visit https://bit.ly/2LTPgmt), The Sreepur Village in Bangladesh aims to decrease the number of deaths by drowning by teaching swimming lessons in their pond.
Our visitor Becky has watched our swim teachers take their first lessons of the new term at the Sreepur village and is now aiding children to swim and how to rescue other children if they struggle in the water. The lesson plan is written by CIPRB who are a leading drowning prevention organisation.
Bangladesh is one of the top countries tackling the problem of drowning. Over the last two years, The Sreepur Village has provided swimming lessons to approx. 300 children aged 6 to 12 years old. The aim of the Swim-Safe Programme is for every child to be able to swim 25 meters, float or tread water for 30 seconds and perform a dry land rescue.
